06 Feb 2025 - 06 Feb 2025
Wetlands International Europe is thrilled to invite you to a dual event honouring World Wetlands Day, taking place on the 6th of February from 16H at ACE Events (Avenue d’Auderghem 22, 1040 Brussels).
Wetlands play an essential role in retaining and purifying water, sequestering carbon, and supporting diverse wildlife. However, when mismanaged, these critical ecosystem services are lost, impacting landscapes and societies.
This year’s celebration on the 6th of February will spotlight the power of co-creation and the importance of promoting sustainable wetlands uses as paludiculture, that preserves the peat soil and thereby, minimizes CO2 emissions and soil subsidence.
The afternoon comprises two key events:
- Co-Creation through Art and Community Engagement We will celebrate the rich cultural and ecological heritage of wetlands showcasing the intersection of art, culture, and environmental stewardship. The artist Claudio Beorchia from the WaterLANDS project will present his work on the Venice Lagoon in Italy.
- Launch of the Paludiculture Cookbook - “Morsels from the Moor” Discover how farming on wet soils can be both sustainable and delicious! Wetlands International Europe, in collaboration with the youth collective RE-PEAT, will unveil a unique cookbook that combines mouthwatering recipes with practical insights on paludiculture. In occasion of this event, the youth collective RE-PEAT will also present the Peatlands Justice Campaign focused on addressing various forms of peatlands injustice.
