Mapping the Mediterranean Peatlands of the Rhone Delta

Earlier this year, Tour du Valat organised a field campaign to identify and map the Mediterranean Peatlands of the Rhone delta. This is the first survey of its type in the region. The field work was completed this year and over 2000 ha of peatlands were identified. This work is now being consolidated and entered into the French National Peatlands Atlas, which will be published next spring. This atlas will help guide the restoration actions in the French National Restoration Plan in accordance with the new European Restoration Regulation.

Tour Du Valat Shares Experience and Practices with Two International Delegations

This fall, Tour du Valat hosted two international delegations to share experiences and practices on wetland restoration. The first visit included Turkish delegates from Doğa Derneği and the Mediterranean Conservation Society (Akdeniz Koruma Derneği).

The second visit included delegates from the Nature Park Vransko jezero in Croatia, managers of other wetland areas in Croatia, and representatives from the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

The events brought together experts to foster exchanges of knowledge on wetland restoration, focusing on management systems, monitoring methods, restoration objectives, and best practices. The aim was to showcase experiences from wetland restoration activities in the Camargue, southern France, through a series of field visits highlighting different approaches to ecological recovery and sustainable management.
