On 2nd February 2025, our WaterLANDS restoration sites across Europe marked World Wetlands Day by hosting events, meetings and open days to celebrate the importance of these precious environments.
In Venice, the largest lagoon in the Mediterranean area, the superstars of the day are the salt marshes: a unique, complex habitat that is fundamental for the survival of the city and its culture.
For the occasion, We are here Venice ETS invited residents of the Venetian area to visit Lazzaretto Nuovo at the ‘Sentiero delle Barene’, one of the areas in the Northern Lagoon where its unique flora can be observed up close, supporting the Ecomuseo dei Lazzaretti Veneziani.
With an enthusiastic response from the group, the visit was completely booked out. Participants learned about the exciting work that We are here Venice is conducting as part of the WaterLANDS project to restore the salt marshes.
