Deliverable 2.3 - Assessment of socio-economic options
Deliverable 2.3, led by UNIVE, evaluates the economic value of wetland activities and explores pathways for a transition towards sustainable management practices.
By integrating socioeconomic considerations with ecological assessments, this deliverable fosters resilient and equitable socio-economic development while safeguarding the invaluable services provided by wetlands.
As relevant methodologies, the Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) and Participatory Multi-Criteria Analysis (PMCA) were selected to achieve the objectives of wetland restoration projects within the WaterLANDS framework.
Following a survey conducted across six ASs a detailed assessment to identify sites with potential for implementing CBA or PMCA was undertaken.
England and Italy were identified as ideal candidates for the PMCA approach. Their consolidated studies and knowledge and active community involvement provide a solid foundation for participatory analysis and intervention.
Estonia was identified as suitable for CBA, particularly within one of its sub sites, Kikepera.
Ireland was selected for a preliminary CBA, focusing on the Cuilcagh Anierin AS.
