A new European Commission feature shines a spotlight on WaterLANDS restoration work at Bencroy Mountain in County Leitrim. This is at our Irish Action Site, where project partner LIFE IP Wild Atlantic Nature, has been working with local farmers to deliver blanket bog restoration, through an agri-environmental Results-Based Payment Scheme (RBPS).

The story follows local farmers Matthew and Andrew Boyle, whose hands-on work is helping restore a degraded blanket bog through erosion control, drain management and invasive species removal. Beyond ecological recovery, the article highlights the power of community stewardship, showing how local knowledge and long-term commitment can drive lasting landscape change. Bencroy has become a "lighthouse for restoration", demonstrating how collaborative action can support biodiversity, climate resilience and healthier peatlands across Europe.

The feature is part of a campaign to showcase the local benefits of EU-funded projects in Ireland.
