Join the Peatlands and Policies Open Data Mapathon on Sat 6th April with the Insight Centre at the University of Galway.

Calling all third-level students and young professionals! The University of Galway is searching for teams of up to 4 people to map the peatlands of Europe, linking related policies and open data.

1st prize €1,200, 2nd prize €800, 3rd prize €400.

The event will map peatlands and policies to help to improve biodiversity and reduce GHG emissions by combining GIS datasets with open datasets and links to relevant policy documents.

Volunteers are also needed to join the Mapathon support team.

Take part online remotely, or in person at the Data Science Institute in the University of Galway for a day of mapping and exploring peatlands. Whether you're a seasoned mapper or a newbie, come and contribute to mapping peatlands and policies using open data. This hands-on event will help us to better understand, protect and restore our peatlands. The event will be broadcast live on Mapathon TV (Zoom) and YouTube. All you need is a laptop, some enthusiasm, and get ready to map away!
